The organizations and resources listed below are available to assist patients in education about eye health and vision care. These organizations are not necessarily affiliated with the Health Care Alliance for Patient Safety and their inclusion below does not imply endorsement of the Alliance.

American Diabetes Association (ADA)

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) works to fight the consequences of diabetes and to help those affected by diabetes. The association funds research to manage, cure and prevent diabetes (including type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, and pre-diabetes); delivers services to hundreds of communities; provides information for both patients and health care professionals; advocates on behalf of people denied their rights because of diabetes.

American Macular Degeneration Foundation

The American Macular Degeneration Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to the prevention, treatment, and cure of macular degeneration through raising funds, educating the public, and supporting scientific research.

American Optometric Association (AOA)

The American Optometric Association (AOA) is the leading authority on quality care and an advocate for our nation's health, representing more than 44,000 doctors of optometry (O.D.), optometric professionals, and optometry students. Their website includes information and resources to help educate patients about their eye and vision health.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is a federal agency that conducts and supports health promotion, prevention, and preparedness activities in the United States, with the goal of improving overall public health.

The CDC provides up-to-date information and resources on contact lens care.

EyeSmart from the American Academy of Ophthalmology
The American Academy of Ophthalmology’s EyeSmart website provides patient information about eye diseases and treatments, eye health news, and tips for good eye health.

Federal Trade Commission (FTC)

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is an independent agency of the United States government. The mission of the FTC is the promotion of consumer protection and the elimination and prevention of anti-competitive business monopolies.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation's food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation. The FDA also provides accurate, science-based health information to the public.

Glaucoma Research Foundation

The Glaucoma Research Foundation funds research in order to better understand and treat glaucoma in the hope of finding a cure.

Medicare 

Medicare is the United States health insurance program for people age 65 or older, for certain people with disabilities who are under 65, and people of any age with permanent kidney failure.

National Association for Visually Handicapped (NAVH)
The National Association for Visually Handicapped (NAVH) offers training in the use of and access to a wide variety of optical aids and lighting; a large print, nationwide, free-by-mail loan library; large print educational materials; a quarterly newsletter; referrals; self-help groups and educational outreach.

National Eye Institute (NEI)
One of the National Institutes of Health, an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, the National Eye Institute (NEI) conducts and supports research that helps prevent and treat eye diseases and other disorders of vision.

National Eye Health Education Program (NEHEP)

The National Eye Health Education Program (NEHEP) was established by NEI to help health and community professionals increase awareness about eye health. NEHEP programs are designed to reach populations at higher risk for eye disease and vision loss and to promote the use of vision rehabilitation services.

National Association. of Area Agencies on Aging 

The National Association of Area Agencies on Aging represents all Area Agencies on Aging, addressing concerns of all older Americans in the U.S.

National Council on Aging

The National Council on Aging is a national leader and partner to help people aged 60+ meet the challenges of aging. The group partners with nonprofit organizations, government, and business to provide innovative community programs and services, online help, and advocacy.

Office of Minority Resources 

The mission of the Office of Minority Resources is to improve the health of racial and ethnic populations through the development of effective health policies and programs that help to eliminate disparities in health. Provides information on various health programs.

Patient Advocate Foundation’s Co-Pay Relief

Provides co-payment assistance for pharmaceutical products to insured Americans who financially and medically qualify.

Think About Your Eyes

Think About Your Eyes is a national public awareness campaign, presented by The Vision Council and the American Optometric Association, designed to educate the public on the benefits of vision health and promote the importance of getting an annual comprehensive eye exam.
